Homework

Homework is an important part of learning and enables students to develop their independence and resilience across the curriculum.

The homework strategy at Lift Aylward is based on the following principles:

- Homework will be set on a regular basis, weekly for core subjects
- Homework will be used to revisit previously learnt material
- Homework will utilise high-quality existing resources (e.g. Seneca Learning, Sparx Math, Sparx Reader, Century Tech etc.)
- Homework will be centrally set and monitored at KS3 and KS4

Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9)
Students in KS3 should complete approximately 20 minutes of homework for each of their Ebacc subjects. In addition, students should complete 40 minutes of reading per week.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11)
Students in KS4 should complete a minimum of 30 minutes of homework for all of their subjects every week. Some of this homework will be using online platforms.
Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form)
Students in KS5 should complete at least one hour of homework for all of their subjects.
Homework support

We want every student to feel supported with their homework. Our school offers a range of resources, including:

Homework club
A quiet, supervised space where students can complete their homework with access to teachers and resources.
Online platforms
Homework is set on Google Classroom so students can access tasks and resources easily.
After-school study sessions
Our study hub is open after school for students to use computers, complete coursework or seek help from staff.
Monitoring and feedback

Teachers will monitor the setting and completion of homework regularly, providing feedback to help students improve and deepen their understanding. Parents are encouraged to use the school planner or contact the school if their child needs additional support with homework.

Homework isn’t just about completing tasks – it’s about building confidence, reinforcing learning and discovering what’s possible.
